How to make homemade almond butter

I love nut butter. One of my favorite vegan and easy to make recipe is almond butter. Funny that despite of the name it contains no butter and has a lots of health benefits. Is great for snacks and smoothies as we’ll as it’s great for weight loss. It’s high on protein and can help lower cholesterol, plus, even a spoonful of almond butter can give you a huge boost of energy. That why this creamy, delicious, gooey butter makes a fantastic addition to a healthy snack and I make sure I always have it on my kitchen. But the truth is good almond butter it’s quite expensive and in some places (Hello, Mother Russia) it’s almost impossible to buy it.

So I decided to show you a quick and easy way to make almond butter at home. There is one crucial ingredient in this recipe, and that is good Raw almonds. You’re also going to need a really good food processor, I recommend you to try Vitamix. It’s really good and make all the tough job for you.

Another key to a good almond butter is a good oil. I like to use a mix of oils which gives unique smell to the final product. I blend together sesame, grapeseed and olive oil and use it as one. For regular butter I suggest to use oil with no smell and particular taste.

NB: The trick you should know to make a smooth and gooey butter! While blending, constantly push it down to mix better. Take your time, don’t rush. If you have a little patience, you can make excellent almond butter.

You going to need:

Almond

Salt

Sesame, grapeseed or olive oil

As I said before I like to use sesame oil or grapeseed oil. Grapeseed is great because it doesn’t have any smell or specific taste. So it’s excellent for almond butter.

Place almonds in food processor. Process for several minutes. You will need to scrape down the sides in the beginning. Add a pinch of salt and a little bit of oil. Now blend all ingredients to see the magic of how almonds turn into luxurious and tasty butter.

You can eat it spreading on a piece of whole wheat bread, biscuit or fruit. And it will be a good healthy addition to your smoothie or even soup.
