Maca is one of my favorite superfoods. It has so many benefits that it makes me wonder why more people are not using it in their daily eating.

Maca is coming from mountain region of South America. It looks a little bit like a little turnip or radish and has been used by indigenous people from that region since ancient times. They used it as a food and as a treatment. The most traditional use was in improving fertility in animals and people. It was also used as aphrodisiac.

Recent years studies and common experience show that maca is great not only for improving fertility but as a mood balancing, energy enhancing addition to your diet because it is an adaptogen. It also helps to balance your endocrine system and boost your immune system. Maca is a source of vitamins, phytonutrients, fatty acids and amino acids which make it so valuable.

Maca could be and should be used for both men and women in their diets. It helps the whole body to stay healthy.

You can buy maca in a powder form, in capsules or in liquid form. If it’s a powder, it is very easy to use adding to your smoothie or just put it in your drink. Watch though that the substance you are adding maca to is not too hot.

As any plant with benefits maca has its contraindications. Consult your doctor before using it in your diet if you take any prescribed medicine or have any special medical condition.
